proud of the accuracy I achieved in depicting Sherlock Holmes and his world.
As many Sherlockians and Holmesians know, however, at least early in the
stories, Holmes was a drug addict. His preferred drug seemed to be
intravenous cocaine, although he was also known to use morphine in the same way.
for Holmes' usage of cocaine in particular. When I was invited to present a
scholarly paper (of sorts; Holmesians have a great sense of humor and have a
lot of fun) at the 8th annual Gathering of Southern Sherlockians,
I decided to put together what I had learned about cocaine use in the Victorian
era, and what effects it had. It was very well received at the
Gathering, and a writer friend suggested I offer it as an e-publication; hence

disorder, and the like. It certainly gives one pause for thought, and adds
a new dimension to Holmes.
