Current Projects

One of my current science fiction mysteries (in e-book and trade paperback
formats) by Twilight Times Books is Burnout, a techno-thriller about a Space Shuttle
disaster that turns out to be no accident. As the true scope of the conspiracy is
gradually uncovered by the principal investigators, "Crash" Murphy and
Dr. Mike Anders, they find themselves running for their lives, as lovers, friends
and coworkers involved in the investigation perish around them. What
happened to the Shuttle? Who is responsible for the disaster and why?
Why is the government calling it an accident? Why is someone willing to kill
to keep it a secret? And how big is the conspiracy? An exciting action
techno-thriller, Burnout will leave you on the edge of your seat, not wanting
to put it down. Burnout has been in Fictionwise's SF Top 25. To date, it has
been nominated for eight awards in four separate genres (e-book, science
fiction, mystery, and thriller).

Due to popular request, the sequel to Burnout is in work now. Tentatively titled
Escape Velocity, it picks up where Burnout leaves off, telling the story of Project Aurora,
Crash Murphy, and others who have become intertwined in the web of intrigue.

Also available as an e-book and trade paperback is EPPIE finalist
The Y Factor, coauthored with Darrell Bain, multiple EPPIE Award
winner. It is the next novel in the Cresperian science fiction series.
My mentor, Travis "Doc" Taylor, and Mr. Bain co-authored the first novel of
the series, the Dream Realm Award winning Human By Choice, published by
Twilight Times Books. The Cresperians are an alien race whose starship
wrecks in our solar system, with some of the lifepods landing scattered
around Earth. The series tells of the new "space race" that ensues as various
nations vie for the Cresperians and their technology. The Y Factor is a Fictionwise
best-seller. I have maintained my collaboration with Darrell Bain, and we
recently completed the third book in the Cresperian science fiction series.
Titled The Cresperian Alliance, it was released in e-book format in January
2010 and in print Fall 2010. It is a best-seller at both Fictionwise and eReader.
A fourth, and possibly fifth, book is anticipated in the series.

In addition, I am thrilled to finally be collaborating with my mentor,
Travis S. "Doc" Taylor, on the first in what we hope will be a series of books.
The first book is Extraction Point!, another action packed science fiction
mystery, definitely a techno-thriller read: Brilliant scientist and government
operative Dr. Reagan "Ray" Brady is a man with a shadowed, and
painful, past. He should be dead. In fact, the man he was IS "dead," and
the identity he now has is not the one with which he was born. Were it not
for two faithful friends, now dubbed Jay and Ernie, all three men would
truly be dead. Instead, Ray has what he considers the perfect life: the three
now work for an ultra-secret division of the Department of Homeland
Security, on the lookout for invasion by rather unique sorts of illegal
aliens - "Santa Clauses," or extraterrestrials, and "Easter Bunnies," or
time travelers. This team includes not only Ray, but his wife and team
leader, Samantha Brady. The team's "mascot" is their one year old daughter,
Abigail. Things couldn't be any more perfect for Ray - until a mysterious
man shows up, leaving several dead men in his wake. When Ray's team confronts
the man in the Big Apple, Ray is nearly beaten to a pulp, then watches as
the man leaps from the roof of a ten story building - and vanishes in mid-air.
Who is this man? Why does his image show up through three centuries
of Earth's history? How do he and his men manage to travel seemingly
instantaneously? What does he intend to do with all of the stolen wealth
and dangerous material he has amassed? And can Ray and his team stop him
before Ray loses everything he now holds dear? We anticipate a 15 May 2011 release.

Just out in print and a runaway hit is the steampunk anthology, Dreams of Steam,
from Kerlak Publishing, containing my first foray into that genre with the
short story, "The Bunker." After all, nobody really knows what happened
in the United States during a certain little Victorian-era alien invasion...

Having ventured into the steampunk subgenre, I found I liked the waters, and
so I am diving in again. The Bellerophon Club is, I hope, the first
in the Adventures of Aemelia Gearheart! Aemelia is a Victorian-era American
transplanted by her husband to London, where he introduces her to the
members of a somewhat mysterious, and definitely intellectual, explorers'
society, The Bellerophon Club. Composed of world explorers, renowned
scientists, famous detectives, government operatives, and others, Aemelia
soon finds herself caught up in a world of science and intrigue!

I also have four manuscripts complete on my own science fiction mystery
series, the Displaced Detective Series, regarding the discovery of alternate
universes, and the commotion which ensues when the inhabitant of one
universe - believed to be fictional in ours! - inadvertently crosses into our own.
This series has been sold to my current publisher, Twilight Times Books, and
the first volume of the series is expected to hit the shelves in late winter
or spring 2012.
